An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter P-51D Mustang in the Very Long Range (VLR) version in 1:72 scale from Arma Hobby. The VLR boxing focuses on the long-range escort missions of the Pacific theater, which included carrying drop tanks for maximum range. Arma Hobby releases its Mustangs both as an Expert Set (a richer boxing with photo-etch and masks) and as a simpler Junior Set; check the exact edition and the contents of this item against the manufacturer's part number.
The North American P-51D Mustang was one of the most successful Allied fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by the liquid-cooled Packard V-1650 V12 engine (the Rolls-Royce Merlin built under license) and carried six heavy machine guns in the wings. The D version with a teardrop canopy offered an excellent view. The Very Long Range operations over Japan made use of the Mustang's great range, supplemented by drop tanks, so that the fighters could escort bombers on exceptionally long routes.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue clean joints with a thin modeling cement for plastic. Paint the cockpit interior and pick it out before closing the fuselage up; glue the clear teardrop canopy carefully with a canopy cement. Apply a primer and a gloss coat before the decals. Pacific Mustangs carried a polished aluminum surface with pronounced identification stripes; you achieve the metal look with metallic paints and add fine wear and panel line washes after the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
