Watch out for a mix-up: this item is not an aircraft model but a set of masks for painting. The cut self-adhesive pieces are applied to a finished model, sprayed over and, once removed, leave a precisely bounded area. In 1:72 scale a mask makes even more sense than in larger scales, because on a small area the difference between an accurate edge and a guessed one shows immediately, and such a small shape can hardly be repeated freehand.
The pieces are tiny and sensitive to handling, so it pays to work with sharp tweezers and good lighting. The curved surfaces of the fuselage and the leading edges of the wing call for patience: the material has to be pressed down gradually, from the center toward the edges, so that it does not wrinkle. Where a mask crosses an engraved line, pressing the edge down with a toothpick helps, and the line should be dusted off beforehand. In a small scale every unnecessary coat of paint also shows up faster, so spray as thinly as possible.
Degrease the surface with alcohol before applying the mask and let it dry completely. Apply the paint in several misted coats, perpendicular to the surface rather than at an angle. Take the mask off while the paint is only touch-dry and pull it back over itself. Remove any adhesive residue with alcohol on a cotton swab, carefully on small models so that the surrounding paint is not wiped off. Let the surface dry thoroughly before the next coat of varnish.
