The Piper PA-18 Super Cub is an American high-wing aircraft with a tube fuselage frame and fabric covering, which came out of the family of light Piper Cub machines. The crew sit in tandem, one behind the other, the aircraft has fixed conventional landing gear with a tailwheel and a piston engine with a propeller. Thanks to its low landing speed, short takeoff and ability to operate from unpaved ground, it became one of the most widespread machines in its class. It was used for training, liaison and observation duties, as a glider tug, and for patrol and agricultural work. Military and civil machines of this family appeared in many European countries and a number of them still fly today.
The small glued areas and the delicate parts call for a calm hand and a thin cement for plastic that draws into the joint by capillary action; that way you avoid overflow and fogging of the clear parts. Take the greatest care over the wing and landing gear struts: they are thin and break or bend easily, so cut them off the sprue with some to spare and clean them up with a file rather than with pliers. Fit the struts only once the wing has dried, ideally after a dry test, so that the dihedral sits symmetrically. The cabin has a lot of glazing, so cut the masks accurately and paint the interior before you close the fuselage. Fabric-covered surfaces look best with a matte or semi-gloss varnish applied with an airbrush over a thin primer; too much gloss would spoil the impression of fabric.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
