An injection-molded plastic kit of the French Renault FT-17 light tank in the version with a cast turret, in 1:72 scale from Flyhawk. This variant captures the round one-piece cast turret. The box usually contains parts for two tanks, fine photo-etched parts and a decal sheet. Flyhawk is known for precise molding in small scale, so even the tiny FT-17 offers surprisingly fine detail.
The Renault FT was a groundbreaking French light tank from the end of the First World War and is regarded as the forerunner of the modern tank layout: it had a rotating turret with the armament, the engine at the rear and the crew at the front. The turret took either an 8mm Hotchkiss machine gun or a short 37mm Puteaux gun. It was built in huge numbers, served in many armies and in various forms remained in service long after the war, in some countries as late as the Second World War.
The model has small and fine parts, so work patiently and with a sharp knife. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate and the plastic with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer and airbrush the paints; the FT-17 is typically finished in a multi-color period camouflage with dark dividing bands. A fine wash and dry paint on the edges will bring out the rivets and the details, while dust and mud belong on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
