1:72 RF-8A/G Photo-Recon Crusader from Sword is a short-run injection-molded plastic kit of the Vought Crusader carrier photo-reconnaissance aircraft, complemented by resin parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit in 1:72 scale from Sword represents the American Vought RF-8 Crusader carrier photo-reconnaissance aircraft. It is a short-run injection-molded plastic model complemented by resin parts to raise the detail, the seat for instance. Short-run molds call for somewhat more careful preparation of the parts than mass-produced kits, but the result is a subject you will hardly find otherwise in plastic in this scale.
The RF-8 Crusader is the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version of the Vought F-8 Crusader carrier supersonic fighter. Instead of cannons and a radar it carried a set of aerial cameras in the forward fuselage. A characteristic feature of the real subject was its variable-incidence wing, which was raised for takeoff and landing on the deck of a carrier. The photo-reconnaissance Crusaders became famous above all for risky reconnaissance flights at low altitude.
Before gluing, clean the resin parts of mold release agent residue (lukewarm water with detergent) and cut the casting blocks off; work with respiratory protection while sanding. Glue the resin parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic. With a short-run kit, count on dry-fitting the parts, sanding the gaps where needed and reinforcing the joints. We recommend a base color (primer) and spraying with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
