This machine of the schwerer Panzerspähwagen line carries a rotating turret with a 20 mm automatic gun and a coaxial machine gun. The model is richly broken up and has a well worked-out running gear for all eight wheels; the instructions in the box state the exact contents of the particular boxing.
The Sd.Kfz.231 was a German heavy eight-wheeled armored car, and at the time it entered service at the end of the 1930s it was one of the most modern reconnaissance vehicles in the world. It had drive and steering on all eight wheels and a second driving position at the rear, so it could move just as fast in either direction. In its fully rotating turret it carried a 20 mm KwK automatic gun and a coaxial machine gun, suitable for fighting lightly armored targets and infantry. The vehicle formed the backbone of long-range reconnaissance in the German armored divisions and was deployed during the campaigns in Poland, France and the Balkans, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front, where more modern types gradually supplemented and replaced it.
Start by carefully assembling the busy running gear with all eight wheels and axles, so that the vehicle stands straight and the wheels sit down. Glue the rotating turret and the armament so that they stay free to move. Bring the gray (Panzergrau) or sand finish to life with tonal variation between the panels, and pick the edges out with a dry brush. Dust pigments on the wheels and the lower areas will give the vehicle a well-used look; a dark wash will emphasize the rivets and the detail of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
