Injection-molded plastic model of the German heavy eight-wheeled signals vehicle Sd.Kfz.263 in 1:72 scale from Roden. This is the radio car (Panzerfunkwagen) derived from the eight-wheeled Panzerspähwagen line; in place of a rotating turret it has a fixed superstructure with a roomy radio workplace and a conspicuous frame antenna above the hull. The box contains injection-molded plastic parts and a decal sheet.
The Sd.Kfz.263 was the command and signals vehicle of the forward reconnaissance units. Its job was not to fight but to maintain reliable radio communications between the staffs and the units in action. It therefore carried only light defensive armament in the form of a machine gun, but it was fitted with a powerful radio set and a large frame antenna. The vehicle used a load-bearing hull, all-wheel drive and a second driving position at the rear, all typical of the whole eight-wheeled line.
With armored vehicles it pays to assemble and paint the running gear first and only then close up the hull; fit and paint the delicate frame antenna with care at the very end of the build. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic. Lay down a primer before painting and apply the color with an airbrush in thin coats. A dark wash in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the running gear will give a convincing look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
