AMP 1:72 Sikorsky R-5/S-51 Ambulance is a plastic kit of the early American helicopter in the ambulance version.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the early Sikorsky R-5/S-51 helicopter in 1:72 scale from AMP, in the ambulance version with side panniers for carrying the wounded. By available accounts the package holds photo-etched parts, clear parts and decals. It is a short-run model, suited rather to more experienced builders.
The Sikorsky R-5, in civil designation the S-51, was among the first genuinely usable helicopters and became known above all in the rescue and medical role. The ambulance version carried panniers for stretchers on the sides of the fuselage and contributed markedly to the growth of air rescue work in the period after the Second World War and during the Korean War.
On a short-run kit, try the parts dry and clean the sprue gates off them. Mask the cockpit glazing and glue it so that it does not fog. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The rotor pylon and the fine struts call for joints that are firm but handled gently; painting with an airbrush keeps the coat thin.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
