This short-run kit captures the Soviet experimental Su-85I tank destroyer in 1:72 scale. It is a multimedia kit from a Czech maker: the basis is injection-molded plastic, supplemented by fine resin parts and a metal barrel for the main weapon. The package is meant for modelers who will appreciate an unconventional subject from the margins of Second World War history.
The Su-85I came about as a Soviet attempt to rearm a captured German StuG III assault gun with a home-built 85 mm gun. The conversion consisted of a new casemate superstructure carrying the more powerful weapon, able to engage the heavier German tanks. The project stayed at the prototype stage and never reached series production, which makes it all the more interesting as a subject for collectors of armor.
With short-run kits, count on more careful cleaning up of the parts and a dry run before gluing. Join the plastic with liquid modeling cement, and bond the resin and the metal barrel with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting, spray the surface with an airbrush, and bring out the running gear and the details with washes and pigments for mud and dust effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
