An injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov (KP). KP-JOYPACK is a simplified, reduced-content edition — it is not a multi-model pack. According to the manufacturer, the box contains one sprue of plastic parts including the canopy, without a decal sheet and without a printed manual; the manufacturer offers the assembly instructions as a download. Because of the reduced content, you will need to source the decals (markings) separately before you can finish the model.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was developed as a fast and highly successful RAF response to the appearance of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190. The Spitfire airframe was fitted with a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage, two-speed supercharger, which restored the aircraft's edge, especially at higher altitudes. The Mk.IX became one of the most numerous and most successful Spitfire variants ever built, serving on the Western Front, in the Mediterranean and with Allied squadrons including Czechoslovak airmen, and after the war it entered service with a number of other countries.
This is a classic injection-molded kit that is glued with thin (extra thin) liquid cement for polystyrene, which wicks into the joint and leaves a clean surface. Finish and paint the cockpit first, and only then close up the fuselage; keep small parts on the sprue for as long as possible. Mask the clear canopy with tape and never glue it with liquid polystyrene cement — use canopy glue or gel-type cyanoacrylate instead. Before painting, spray on a primer, which will reveal any sanding marks, and apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. RAF aircraft typically wore a two-color upper camouflage with a light-colored underside; apply a coat of gloss varnish over the areas before applying decals, then apply a matte coat once dry. Since the JOYPACK edition does not include decals, plan the markings in advance from your own stock or from aftermarket sheets.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
