A limited edition 3D-printed kit for experienced modelers from the MRM line by IBG models (the manufacturer's part number A720001) captures the original Supermarine Spitfire prototype, serial number K5054, exactly in its first flight configuration. The set contains fine 3D-printed parts, a 3D-printed figure of the test pilot, a vacuum-formed snap-vac canopy, Techmod decals and a set of masks. The run is limited to about 400 examples.
K5054 first flew on 5 March 1936 from Eastleigh aerodrome, with chief test pilot Joseph Mutt Summers at the controls. The machine from the drawing board of designer R. J. Mitchell was powered by an early Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. At this stage the prototype flew with a polished metal surface and without armament. K5054 was destroyed in a crash on 4 September 1939.
This is a 3D-printed kit for more experienced modelers. Before building, wash the parts free of print resin residue, cut the print supports off carefully and let them dry thoroughly; protect your breathing while sanding. Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) for gluing. The characteristic bare polished metal is best captured with metallic shades; the masks supplied make it easier to spray the canopy framing cleanly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
