The plastic kit 1:72 Tu-128UT Fiddler from Trumpeter - the trainer version of the Soviet long-range interceptor with an added cockpit in the nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the trainer version of the Soviet long-range interceptor Tu-128 in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. In the NATO code system the type carries the name Fiddler.
The Tu-128 was built by the Tupolev design bureau for the air defense forces as a long-range interceptor able to patrol over the vast and poorly covered regions of the north and Siberia. It is a twin-engine high-wing aircraft with a swept wing and a crew of two, and it is the largest and heaviest interceptor ever to enter regular service. Its armament consisted of four large guided air-to-air missiles under the wing, and a bulky radar in the nose guided them. The UT version is the trainer conversion: instead of the radar it received a second, lowered station for an instructor in the nose, so the aircraft has two cockpits one above the other and a characteristic step. Without the radar it could no longer carry out a combat task and served exclusively to train crews. It was built in small numbers, which makes it a rewarding and not often seen subject.
The two cockpits one above the other are the main thing on view, so fit out and finish both before you close up the nose. Soviet machines of this class flew mostly in bare metal or in light gray, which calls for a perfectly prepared surface: use a filler primer, sand the joints and check them against the light. Coat the surfaces with a gloss clear coat before the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
