A kit of the Soviet light off-road vehicle UAZ 469 in 1:72 scale. It is a type that works in dioramas across an unexpectedly wide range of subjects: from army columns through border guards to civilian traffic, where these vehicles served long after the end of the Cold War. The small scale means the vehicle takes up a minimum of room and yet dates the scene precisely.
The UAZ 469 is a four-wheeler with all-wheel drive, high ground clearance and a simple, repairable design. It is exactly this undemanding character that made it a vehicle that survived decades and appears in dozens of forms, from the canvas-topped version through an ambulance to a hard cab. In the Eastern Bloc it was as much a matter of course as off-road vehicles of Western manufacture were elsewhere.
In a small scale the parts are tiny, so separate them with cutters only just before gluing and work with tweezers. Paint the chassis and the interior before you close up the body. Play with the green finish: a base, a lighter tint on the horizontal surfaces, a darker one in the shadows. Finally work dust pigments into the wheel wells, onto the wheels and onto the lower part of the doors, because that is exactly where the vehicle got dirtiest.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
