An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet experimental Ye-5 light interceptor in 1:72 scale from the maker A&A Models. It is a short-run kit, which as a rule is completed with small parts that raise the level of detail. The model captures the pre-series prototype with its delta wing and is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it suits more experienced builders rather better.
The Ye-5 is one of the development machines out of which the legendary MiG-21 fighter gradually grew. The prototype with its triangular delta wing offered somewhat better qualities than the swept-wing version tested alongside it and became the starting point for series production. It is therefore an interesting milestone of the early period of supersonic aviation.
With a short-run kit, count on careful cleaning up of the parts and a dry test of the fit. Bond the plastic with liquid modeling cement, and the cockpit glazing with super glue or canopy glue. The metallic silver surfaces of the early jet fighters are brought out by metallic paints applied over a smooth gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
