The real subject

On a motorcycle the front fork is the most exposed part on view and at the same time what holds the whole model on its wheels. In the large 1:9 scale every deviation shows on it: the telescopic tubes have to be straight, smooth and glossy, because the viewer sees them from the closest range. The BMW R nineT motorcycle is a modern machine with an exposed front end, on which the fork does not hide behind a fairing.

What the set contains

A metal front fork for a model of the BMW R nineT motorcycle in 1:9 scale, intended as a replacement for the parts from the kit. The rendering is movable, so the fork can be compressed and the model keeps a working travel of the front end. Metal also carries the weight of the finished model better than thin split parts and does not deform when the model stands on a base for a longer time.

Building and painting tips

• Try the assembly dry and only then glue it, because on a movable part a bad position cannot be put right later.
• Dose the glue sparingly and keep away from the sliding surfaces, as a drop that runs in will block the movement permanently.
• An ordinary modeling cement does not act on a metal surface; the bond is made by super glue or epoxy.
• Degrease the parts before painting and use a base intended for metal, otherwise the paint does not hold on the smooth surface.
• It is better to leave the glossy sliding tubes without a coat, as a coat will be rubbed off them on compression anyway.

What to watch out for

The name of the set does not give the particular kit it is cut for. For that reason, compare the diameters and the spacings with the parts of your own model, mainly at the point where it is held in the triple clamps and in the axis of the front wheel.
