This kit from Italeri in the large 1:9 scale captures the Suzuki RG500 XR27 road racing motorcycle of the late 1970s. The large scale makes it possible to render the engine, the tubular frame and the fairing in detail. The kit goes back to an older tooling and has been reissued with new parts and decals. Rubber and possibly metal parts are usually included; the exact contents are given in the instructions.
The Suzuki RG500 was one of the most successful machines of the 500 cc class of the road racing world championships. It was powered by a two-stroke four-cylinder engine arranged in a square (square four) and the machine collected one victory after another in the premier class. The XR27 version is linked with a season of the late 1970s, when the marque's rider was fighting for the top places in the championship.
In the large scale the details really show: assemble the frame and the engine carefully and set the metal, matte and gloss surfaces apart in color. The fairing calls for a smooth gloss coat as a base under the sponsor decals, and once they are applied, unify it with a gloss coat. Leave the chrome and polished parts until last. Older toolings may call for cleaning up of the mating surfaces.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
