74.644 Primer Sand

Why a model is primed

An opaque paint needs a ground it can hold on to. A smooth surface does not offer it that, and so the coat rubs off every time the model is picked up, first on the edges and in the places where the model is held. A primer solves that problem and adds one more service: once it is dry, a single-colored area finally shows where an unsanded joint has been left, where there is a scratch and where a drop of glue has run out. It can be put right at precisely this moment, a coat later no longer.

The sand shade

A sand tone is light and warm. Under light shades that pays off: white, yellow and sand camouflage schemes cover sooner over a light ground and do not have to be layered up so much, so the fine relief stays legible. On desert vehicles and on figures in a sandy setting it can serve straight away as the underlying tone on which the further work is done with shading and patina.

How to work with it

• Wash and degrease the surface of the model before application.
• Keep the coat thin, as a heavy application will fill the relief and the rivets.
• Let the primer dry properly and only then paint.
• Stir the contents of the container before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom.
• The number 74.644 in the name distinguishes this primer from the identically named one with the number 73.644.
• The method of application and any thinning are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Terms of supply

A container of primer as described is supplied. A model, paints, thinner and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room and store the container carefully closed and out of the reach of children.
