A classic khaki from the Gunze Acrysion acrylic range, thinnable with water, for application with an airbrush.

The word khaki means dust in Persian and that is exactly what the shade looks like: a dusty brownish yellow, without pronounced green, able to blend with a dry landscape. British colonial troops brought it onto uniforms as early as the nineteenth century, and from there it spread to equipment, tarpaulins, packaging, straps and finally to vehicles as well.
On a model khaki is rewarding, because it does not look like a full color but rather like the shade of a dusty material. That is exactly why it suits canvas parts, wooden crates painted through a stencil, and as a base under dust pigments.
Procedure: first degrease the plastic and give it a base coat. On a smooth and uniform base, light earth tones behave predictably and do not change color depending on whether a gray or a clear part lies underneath. Once dry, the area can be masked with tape, but only after full curing, not merely after it has flashed off to the touch.
The paint belongs to the water-thinnable range, so it can be thinned with water and, for a finer spray, with the maker's thinner. It is better not to let residues dry in the gun, because cured acrylic will not come off the needle with a cloth.
In combination with the neighboring numbers of the range you can build a whole palette of field equipment from a light dust to a darker earth tone, without having to jump between brands with a different sheen. It will be appreciated above all by builders of dioramas, where a figure, a crate and a vehicle stand next to one another and a difference in sheen would be distracting at first glance.
