A light blue tone from the Acrysion range for the undersides of aircraft and light schemes, thinned with water.

Pale blue shades have a clear place in modeling: they cover the undersides of aircraft, which on the real machine were meant to blend with the sky. Beyond that they suit the interiors of sporting aircraft, the light stripes of ship hulls, accessories for winter scenes and as a starting tone for lightening darker blue areas. In a high-altitude scheme the underside is the most exposed to scattered light, so it is exactly there that lightening the shade a little further pays off.
Light colors are merciless toward surface preparation. Every unsanded seam, fingerprint or hair from a cloth stands out after the first pass like an island. It is therefore worth looking over the model against the light before painting, putting the faults right, and only then setting a low pressure and laying on the first covering mist. It is thinned with water, and when a really fine spray is needed with the thinner of the same brand.
The boundary between the underside and the upper color can be drawn in two ways: hard, over masking tape, or soft, sprayed freehand from a few centimeters away. Models in smaller scales take a finer boundary, because from a distance even a hard division looks harsh. And one more thing that is often forgotten: the smaller the model, the lighter the shade should look, otherwise the whole looks heavier than the real machine ever was. Lightening can be done either by adding white directly to the cup or with a thin final mist of the lightened tone drawn from the middle of the areas toward the edges, which at the same time suppresses the impression of a uniform color.
