About product

Carving Foam 10 mm, A4 Size — Carving Foam

A modeling foam from AK Interactive's diorama line, 10 mm thick and in A4 size. It is a raw material, not a finished accessory: a flat sheet from which you cut exactly what the scene needs. A 10 mm thickness gives enough material for a rock relief, a small wall, or a terrain step, while still being comfortable to cut with a knife. A smaller A5 size and a thinner 8 mm version also exist as separate items.

Use

  • rock faces, outcrops, and terrain breaks on a diorama
  • masonry, paving, and curbs suggested by scribing the surface
  • layering sheets on top of each other when you need a taller terrain profile
  • cut with a sharp knife with a new blade or a hot wire cutter, sand with coarser grit sandpaper
  • seal the surface before painting, otherwise the foam will soak up paint and increase consumption

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas and display-case scenes who make their own terrain. The foam is light, so a finished base will not weigh down a shelf, and it can be scribed with brick shapes and stone texture. Watch out for glues and solvents: some products will eat into the foam, so test glue and paint on a scrap piece first. The number of sheets per package is stated on the manufacturer's packaging.

When cutting with a hot tool, work in a ventilated room and do not breathe in the fumes. Sanding creates dust — use respiratory protection. Keep out of reach of children.

FAQ

The number of sheets per package is stated on the manufacturer's packaging.

A sharp hobby knife with a fresh blade gives the cleanest cut; for larger shapes, a hot wire cutter works well. A dull blade tears the material instead of cutting it.

Not always. Solvent-based glues and lacquers can eat into the foam. Test them first on a scrap piece, or seal the surface with a suitable coat beforehand.

They differ in size and thickness. A4 is a larger sheet, and 10 mm gives a taller profile for relief work; the thinner sheet is better suited to finer details and layering.
