Lifecolor CS13 Flesh Paint — a set of six acrylic paints for skin

Flesh Paint from the Italian brand Lifecolor is a set of six water-thinnable acrylic paints of 22 ml each with the part number CS13. The shades are not random: they form two ranges of skin, each in three steps — highlight, base and shadow. It is not a kit, but paints for finishing a completed figure. The surface is matte.

Why a set instead of a single flesh paint

Skin is the most difficult surface on a figure, because every imprecise transition shows on it. A single paint gives a flat mask; a natural look arises only through layering, where the base carries the surface, the highlight comes up on the forehead, the nose, the cheekbones and the backs of the hands, and the shadow is drawn into the eye sockets, under the nose, under the lower jaw and into the folds of the skin. Two ranges in the set also allow different types of skin to be mixed side by side, so that figures in one diorama do not merge into a single tone.

Use

• with a brush and with an airbrush; the manufacturer recommends thinning with water or its own thinner to the consistency of milk
• always give the figure a primer first, otherwise an acrylic will not hold on smooth plastic
• work in thin, semi-transparent coats and blend the transitions with a clean damp brush
• in small scales do not work the face up in detail, exaggerated contrast on a small surface looks crude

The paints are supplied in the stated volume. Thinner and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Work in a ventilated room and keep the paints out of the reach of children.
