DB007 Wooden Base Square 15cm

A wooden display base for a model, square, 15 cm (Gunze / Mr. Hobby)

A quality wooden display base, a plinth, for displaying a finished model. A square shape with a side of 15 cm made of genuine mahogany, with an edge height of 20 mm. The surface is treated with oil, without solvent-based varnish, so the wood stays natural and pleasant to the touch. Because this is solid wood, the shade and the grain of each piece differ slightly.

Why put a model on a plinth

A finished model on a bare table comes across as a toy; on a wooden plinth it looks like a real exhibit — it is the same difference as a picture without a frame and in a frame. A plinth also protects the model: you do not lift it by fragile antennas, mirrors or landing gear but by the base, so far fewer parts break. If you unify a whole collection onto the same plinths, in a cabinet it looks like a professional collection rather than a pile of models.

Use and tips

• A square shape gives corners for a label or a small scene — it suits cars, tanks, longer models and smaller dioramas.
• The model is usually screwed to the plinth from underneath or glued on with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy.
• The wood can be stained, varnished or covered with fabric such as velvet — a dark plinth sets off a light model and the other way round.
• The base can be completed with a photo-etched name plate bearing the name of the model.

Who it is for

For modelers and collectors who want to display a finished piece with dignity and protect it at the same time, and for anyone building a cabinet with a unified look.

The base is supplied on its own, without a model and without fixing material.
