A dark black color in a semi-gloss execution, carried under the name Deactive Black. Semi-gloss is more rewarding with black than a deep matte and than full gloss alike: a matte black swallows the shape of a part and the edges are lost on it, while a glossy one reflects the surroundings and the model looks as though it were in piano lacquer. Between the two there remains a surface on which the shape is still readable.
Black is merciless to everything that is under it. Scratches left by abrasive paper, a joint not sanded down and a fingerprint all show under it more reliably than under any light color. So sand the surface with a fine grit, wash it, degrease it and let it dry. Remove the dust from the workbench before you start spraying.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before work. Choose the thinner and the ratio of thinning according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range. Spray in several thin layers with a pause for it to become tacky; one thick layer leaves the most marks on black, because every unevenness is reflected in it. Keep the brush for small parts and for touching up; on large areas it would leave its strokes behind.
It comes into its own on the dark parts of robots, on the joints and load-bearing parts under the armor and anywhere an area is meant to be subdued and not to draw attention. It will also serve as a ground for darker versions of painting and for the gradual lightening of areas toward the edges. Thinner and cleaner are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
