A set of Vallejo acrylic paints from the Game Color line for the technique known as non-metallic metal, in which the sheen of metal is painted with ordinary shades without metal particles.
Responsibility details are not available.
The technique called non-metallic metal imitates armor, a blade or fittings with ordinary paints without metal particles. The sheen does not arise from the reflection of pigment but from painting: the light places are laid where the light would fall, the dark ones where the shadow would fall, and a sharp transition is created between them. A figure then looks metallic from every angle and in a photograph as well, where real metallic paints often turn into a gray area.
The basis is the layout. First work out where the light falls from and keep to it across the whole figure. Lay the middle tone, then draw the shadow into the hollows and toward the lower edges, and finally take the highlights out to the upper edges and the points. The contrast has to be greater than seems natural, or the surface will stay a matte area. Place the brightest glint on only a very few spots, as white applied across an area destroys the impression of metal.
Apply the paints in thin coats and mix the transitions by gradually adding a neighboring shade. A wet palette will keep a mixed tone for the whole session, which matters with this technique because you will be coming back to it. Give the figure an evening-out ground first and protect finished work with a matte varnish, which supports the impression of painted sheen.
For painters of figures who want metal under control. Figures, brushes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
