Sixteen acrylic shades for the German camouflage patterns of the Second World War, from the splinter pattern through the plane tree to the pea pattern.
Responsibility details are not available.
Few armies brought as much printed cloth into the years 1939 to 1945 as the German one. The splinter pattern with its sharp geometric fields accompanied parachutes and tents, the marsh variant blurred its sharp edges, the plane tree and oak leaf patterns appeared with the field units of the Waffen-SS, and from 1944 the pea pattern was added, Erbsenmuster in German, with its irregular fine drawing. Each of them has a palette of its own and its own logic of how the blotches overlap on the cloth.
According to the name the package contains sixteen pieces. The tones are chosen so that they follow on from one another: a ground green or beige, darker blotches onto it, and finally the fine drawing that closes the pattern off. The paints are acrylic, they thin with water and they dry to matte, which is crucial with printed cloth, because gloss would optically dissolve the fine drawing.
Proceed from the largest areas to the smallest and do not try to copy the blotches exactly from a photograph. At the scale of a figure it is the impression that counts, not a match piece for piece. It helps to draw the blotches with a brush with a short point and to leave small gaps between the colors, as the drawing then does not run together into one smear. At the end go over the whole uniform with a very thin brown glaze, which evens all the tones out and the cloth stops looking freshly printed.
The smaller the figure, the greater the simplification. On small gaming figures the fine drawing hardly comes into play and two or three fields of the pattern are enough, whereas on large busts it pays to draw in the individual dots as well. Decide according to the distance from which the model will usually be seen.
