The earth shade of this fine turf is not meant for a lawn but for the places where grass loses out: worn paths, the ground around gates, the areas under trees, the edges of fields after plowing. A landscape without these brown areas has something machine-made green about it, and the eye notices that before it can name why.
The material is in a container with a sieve, so it is laid down evenly and in a thin layer right where it is wanted. That does away with tipping it out of a bag, in the course of which the turf always ends up where it should not be. For gradual layering of shades this is a fundamental help, because the transitions can be built up a little at a time.
The refill holds 945 cm3, that is considerably more than bagged packages of the same material. The fine grade also suits a first layer under coarser turf, on which the structure of the growth is then built. Typical tasks:
The commonest mistake in building a surface is to lay it all down at once. The material then holds only on top, the bottom stays loose and the area looks like a carpet with a sharp edge. It is better to work in three goes: lay a thin layer on, soak it through, let it dry and only then add another in a slightly different shade. The result has depth and will take taller grasses added later.
