Gunze Mr.Color Flat Base Smooth

This is not a paint or a standalone varnish, but a flattening additive (flat base) on a lacquer base from the Mr.Color line. Added in a small amount to gloss paints and clear varnishes, it reduces their gloss. The Smooth variant gives a finer, more semi-matte (satin) flattening that keeps the surface smooth. This is a lacquer product, so it can only be mixed with lacquer paints and thinned with Mr.Color lacquer thinner — it is not thinned with water.

Use

• Add a small amount to a gloss or clear lacquer paint and mix; the amount of additive sets the resulting gloss.
• Suitable when you want to tone down gloss while keeping a fine, silky surface (for example a satin topcoat).
• Do not add too much — an excess of the additive can lighten the surface.
• Applied with an airbrush; for an even thin coat, thin it with Mr.Color lacquer thinner or Leveling Thinner.
