Foam sanding pads in 800 grit from Green Stuff World. A fine step for taking out the scratches left by coarser sanding.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sanding pads with the abrasive laid on flexible foam, in 800 grit. The flexible backing follows the shape of the part, so no flat spot and no ridge appear on a convex surface. The 800 grit is the step used after a medium grit, and its job is not to remove material but to take out the marks left by the previous sanding.
It is used for finishing seams and puttied areas, for smoothing the transitions between plastic and resin and for preparing the surface before a primer goes on. It also comes into its own between coats of finish, where a gentle pass takes off dust and the small grains that have fallen into the finish while it dried.
Sand wet and wipe the surface as you go, so that you can see what you have done. Never skip several grit steps; this step will not smooth out the scratches left by a coarse abrasive and they will show up once the paint is sprayed. Check the surface against the light, because flaws show in a reflection much sooner than when looked at from above. After sanding, wash the part and let it dry.
Protect your airways when sanding, but best of all sand wet. Once the primer has dried, look the area over once more, because a gray base reveals flaws that were invisible on bare plastic.
