HGQ05 is the dark gray shade from the paint set tied to the GQuuuuuuX series. On robot kits dark gray is one of the hardest-working colors there is: it covers the inner frames, the joints, the gun barrels, the hinges and every area that is meant to stay in the background so that the colored panels stand out. That is exactly why it is useful outside this series too, on armament, running gear or the technical parts of other models.
It is an acrylic paint thinnable with water from the Gunze range. It dries to a semi-gloss sheen. Dark shades also cover better than light ones, so two thin coats usually do and the paint does not flood the fine surface detail.
Stir the bottle before use, the pigment settles at the bottom. Lay down thin coats with a pause to dry. On large areas an airbrush is the surer thing, while small frames and joints are easy enough with a brush. Wash and degrease the parts beforehand, as even a well-covering paint pulls into beads on greasy plastic. Dark gray also serves well as a base under metallic shades or as a shading color for engraved recesses.
The paint is supplied on its own. The kit, the thinner, the primer, the clear coat and the tools are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
