Hobby Color H48, earthy gray 2, 10 ml (Gunze)

A shade from the Aqueous Hobby Color range by the Japanese manufacturer Gunze, also known as GSI Creos. The manufacturer lists it under the name Field Gray 2, that is the second version of field gray. The bottle holds 10 ml and the paint is a water-thinnable acrylic.

Thinning and compatibility

It is thinned with Aqueous range thinner or with water, roughly 100 to 150 percent thinner for an airbrush. Do not mix it with the Mr. Color lacquer range or with the Acrysion range; both have their own thinner and the two do not get along. The H range uses the same numbers for its shades as the C lacquer range, so go by the letter in the designation. Shades within the same range can be mixed with each other, and the degree of sheen is adjusted with a flattening additive from the same range.

Use

• Shake the bottle carefully before work.
• With a brush one or two coats are usually enough, with an airbrush two or three.
• On large areas apply thin covering coats rather than one heavy one.
• Let the paint dry between coats, otherwise a brush will smear it.
• The degree of sheen can be adjusted with a flattening additive from the same range.

For modelers of military vehicles and figures who are looking for a muted earthy gray and work with water-thinnable acrylics. Muted gray-green tones of this kind tend to be the basis of uniforms as well as the base for subsequent weathering with a wash and dry-brushing.
