An eight-piece set of airbrush paints for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force of the years 1937 to 1945, from the early light tones to the late dark green.
Responsibility details are not available.
Japanese army aircraft went through a marked change of finish during the eight years of war. The machines from the beginning of the fighting in China wore light, yellowish and gray-green shades, which were mainly meant to protect the skin. As the fighting moved over the jungle and the island groups, dark green was added from above, often sprayed irregularly right at the units, so that the typical blotches with ragged edges arose. The set covers both periods: the early tones as well as the late camouflage, including the yellow leading edge and an earthy brown for the transitions.
Eight bottles of seventeen milliliters each make up a coherent palette, in which the supplementary shades for fading and for the wheel wells are not missing either. The paints belong to a line ready for immediate spraying: the pigment is finely ground, so it passes even through a nozzle of two tenths of a millimeter without clogging it.
They are applied in thin passes over a smooth base coat, and a few minutes between the layers are enough. If the modeler wants to imitate camouflage improvised at a unit, it pays to hold the airbrush close to the surface and to lower the pressure; the flat fading of the upper surfaces, on the other hand, comes from adding a drop of a lighter tone to the base green. The dried surface is matte and takes a gloss intermediate varnish before the decals.
