The color

Gun Metallic is the dark metal tone that bluedts steel has on a weapon, on the barrel, the slide and the trigger mechanism. It is neither silver nor black: under sharp light a cool metal sheen appears in it, in shadow it darkens almost to graphite. That very duality makes the shade useful wherever it should be obvious at first glance that this is metal and not painted plastic.

Where it is useful

The paint is listed in the Little Armory Color range, which the manufacturer issued for the tenth anniversary of that range, and it is aimed above all at models of small arms and their accessories. Its use does not end there, though: the same tone suits the metal parts of the equipment of figures, magazines, knives and buckles, the tools and grab handles on military vehicles and the small mechanisms of models from the world of science fiction.

Application tips

• Metal pigment settles at the bottom when left alone, so stir the paint thoroughly before every use.
• Choose the thinner the manufacturer recommends for this range; a cross between two systems will curdle the paint.
• Lay it down in thin coats, as a heavy coat floods the fine engraving and the metal particles clump together in it.
• Metal shades favor a smooth and degreased surface; over a rough one they lose their sheen.
• A clear coat mutes the metal tone, so try the varnish first on a piece of leftover plastic.

Who it is for

For modelers who build small arms, equipment and small accessories and want a ready-made metal tone without mixing it from several paints. The thinner, the primer and the clear coat are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
