Landscapes of War Vol. 1 is a book, not a kit. The title belongs to the Landscapes of War series, which Vallejo carries in its range, and as its name suggests, its center of gravity lies in landscape: in terrain, surfaces and the setting into which a modeler places a finished vehicle, aircraft or figure. This is the first volume of the series, so it tends to be the way in to the whole subject.
For modelers who want to move a finished model into a scene and are looking for inspiration and specific procedures for terrain, vegetation and surfaces. Diorama work has its own logic: composition, the to-scale believability of details, matching the coloring of the base with the model, and durable materials that will not fall apart when carried. Anyone starting out with dioramas will appreciate that these things can be studied all at once and in one place instead of being pieced together from fragments. A publication also does not go out of date as fast as a kit: procedures for working with terrain hold good regardless of which model you finally place in the scene, and a book bought once is one you come back to with every further project. That is why this kind of purchase makes sense taken as an investment in the equipment of your table, not as a one-off set of instructions.
