Lepitre Dark Red

Number Five Lepitre Dark Red

A modeling paint from the Spanish brand Number Five in a bottle of 30 milliliters. The dark red shade is among the colors named after particular racing cars and stables. The paint is supplied at a consistency ready for spraying with an airbrush, so there is no hunting for the right thinning ratio.

Why a shade tied to one stable

A racing car wears a color the team had mixed for it, not a shade off the shelf. A modeler who wants a faithful rendering is therefore faced with a choice: either build the color up from several others and hope to hit it, or reach for a ready-made shade created for exactly this purpose. With a dark red it is especially apparent, because the difference between two close tones is immediately visible on the large area of a body.

How to work with the paint

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom
• The paint is supplied ready for spraying; further thinning is usually not needed
• Thinning and cleaning should be done solely with the thinner and cleaner of the same brand
• Apply in several thin coats and let them become tacky
• A dark red needs a carefully prepared surface, as every unevenness in the gloss will stand out

Safety note

Work in a well-ventilated area and wear a respirator while spraying, as an aerosol is created. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition, close the bottle carefully after use and avoid contact with the eyes and the skin.
