About product

Hobby 2000 Masking Tape For Curves 0.75 mm x 18 m

Take care over the range: this is not an ordinary precision tape. Masking Tape For Curves from the manufacturer Hobby 2000 is a flexible, stretchable tape and its whole point is that it can be bent and stretched into a curve without creasing. Where a straight paper tape of the Precision range picks up wrinkles and paint seeps under them, this one yields nicely into a curve and the edge stays clean. At 0.75 mm wide it is the narrowest choice of the flexible range, and the relation is direct: the narrower the tape, the tighter the curve it manages. The roll holds 18 m. This is a modeling aid, not a kit.

Why a modeling tape and not tape from a hardware store

The key is in the adhesive: it has low, controlled tack, holding well enough to keep paint from seeping under it, yet on removal it does not tear off the dried coat. The edge is sharply cut and after peeling no adhesive residue is left. Ordinary household tape cannot do that.

Use

  • Rounded canopy frames and glazing: the tightest radii, where a wider tape will not sit down.
  • Circular and curved camouflage dividing lines: rounded transitions between shades.
  • Leading edges and the rounded transitions of wings and fuselage.
  • Small circular features, wheels and the rims of hubs.

Work tip

Lead the tape into a curve lightly stretched rather than by force, and press it down along its whole length at once, especially on the inside of the curve. Spray thin coats and peel it off slowly, at a sharp angle, back over itself.

Who it is for

For modelers who spray rounded camouflage transitions and mask glazing. In practice it is used together with the straight Precision range: Precision handles the straight runs, For Curves the curves. A typical model needs both.

An aid for masking during painting. It contains no paints, glue or model. Stick it onto a base that has dried properly; protect the roll from dust and direct sunlight.

FAQ

Precision is a straight, inflexible tape for straight lines and sharp edges, and it creases on a curve. For Curves is flexible and stretchable: it can be bent and stretched into a curve without wrinkling. They are two different ranges and modelers usually need both, Precision for straight runs and For Curves for curves.

Because the narrower the tape, the tighter the curve it can follow. For small radii, such as canopy frames, circular features and small rims, this narrowest width is the best. For longer, gentler curves reach for the 1 mm variant.

The tack is deliberately low and controlled precisely so that this does not happen. Even so, peel the tape off slowly and at a sharp angle back over itself, and do not leave it on the model needlessly long.

Technically yes, but it is a waste: a flexible tape is easy to stretch and that will throw a straight line off. The Precision range is more suitable for straight runs.
