About product

AK interactive Masking Tape FOR CURVES 2 mm

Masking Tape FOR CURVES 2 mm from AK interactive is not an ordinary masking tape. It is a flexible, stretchable tape which, as you apply it, you bend and stretch into a curve — and it does not wrinkle while you do. That is exactly why this range exists: an ordinary straight tape inevitably wrinkles in an arc, small channels appear in the creases and paint bleeds through them. A flexible tape simply stretches and the edge stays smooth and tight. The 2 mm width is the finest in the whole range. This is a modeling aid, not a kit.

The narrower the tape, the tighter the curve

That is the key rule behind the choice of width. A narrow tape manages a tighter radius — it has a smaller distance between the inner and the outer edge of the curve, so the difference in the tension of the material is small and the tape absorbs it comfortably. The 2 mm width is therefore the choice for really tight curves: the rounded corners of canopy frames, circular and oval items, small cutouts, small radii on figures and accessories. If you need gentler curves or wider curved bands, reach for the 3 mm variant of the same range — it covers more area at once, but it will not give such a sharp radius.

Use

  • Curves and circles — camouflage boundaries with rounded transitions, circular markings, oval cutouts.
  • Canopy frames and vision ports with rounded corners.
  • Dividing two-color schemes where a line passes smoothly from straight into a curve.
  • Precise, fine masking on figures and small accessories.
  • The tape holds its shape as a guide when scribing and outlining lines as well.

Why not ordinary tape

Modeling tape is built differently: the tack is controlled and low, so it comes off without taking paint or primer, the edge is cut sharp and adheres along its whole length (no bleeding), and no adhesive stays behind once it is lifted. For this range AK states an adhesive that leaves no residue even on fine and sensitive surfaces.

How to work with it

Lead the tape into a curve by pulling, not by crumpling — stretch it into the curve and stick it down as you go. Once it is in place, press the edge down with a toothpick or the blunt side of a knife, above all on the inner side of the curve. Spray thin coats in the direction away from the mask into the area. Lift it slowly and at an acute angle, back over itself rather than straight away from the model — a perpendicular pull tears a fresh film of paint. The ends can be trimmed with scissors or a knife.

Who the tape is for

For modelers who spray more complex schemes and have run into the fact that a straight tape simply cannot manage a curve. Ideal on aircraft with curved camouflage boundaries, on circular items and on fine work where tenths of a millimeter decide the result.

A modeling aid. Store it dry and out of direct sunlight; paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package.

FAQ

An ordinary tape is intended for straight lines — in a curve it wrinkles and channels appear in the creases through which paint bleeds. This tape is flexible and stretchable: you stretch it into the curve and the edge stays smooth and tight.

The rule is: the narrower the tape, the tighter the curve it will manage. The two-millimeter one is for tight radii — canopy frames, circular and oval items, small cutouts. For gentler curves and wider curved bands the 3 mm variant is more practical.

The tack is controlled and low, and for this range the manufacturer states an adhesive with no residue, suitable even for fine surfaces. Even so, lift it slowly and at an acute angle, not straight away from the model — a perpendicular pull stresses fresh paint most.

Once the tape is on, press the edge down thoroughly, above all on the inner side of the curve, where the material is under the most tension. Then spray thin coats in the direction away from the mask into the area, not against the edge.
