Vallejo Mecha Primer Ivory: a light acrylic primer

This is a primer, not a covering shade and not a clear coat. The primer goes on as the first layer straight onto a cleaned and degreased model surface; its job is to secure the adhesion of the following coats, to even out a substrate made of different materials and to reveal scratches or remains of seams that would not show under the paint. The Mecha range is a water-thinnable acrylic meant above all for an airbrush, but usable with a brush as well.

Use

• Wash the model in lukewarm soapy water before application and let it dry out completely
• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as primers settle
• Lay it down in several thin coats, since a heavy coat floods the engraved detail
• Thin it only with the thinner from the same manufacturer meant for airbrush use, not with plain water
• Let the coat cure properly before further painting

When to reach for a light shade

A light base in an ivory shade suits yellows, oranges, reds and other poorly covering shades, which lose their intensity over a gray or black substrate. It is also used wherever the result is to be light overall, on cockpits, interiors or light camouflage schemes. Under dark colors and for modulation techniques, on the other hand, a gray or black primer tends to work better.
