Sixteen metal tones together

The package brings together a wide choice of shades whose task on a model is to stand in for both glossy and matte metal. In its range it is aimed at modelers who need to have the whole scale to hand at once, rather than buying individual bottles as each kit on the bench demands.

The range of the palette

The basis is made up of aluminum, silver according to the RLM01 standard, chrome, steel, gold, bright brass, copper and a rusty tone. They are supplemented by gunmetal, black with a metallic sheen and a cool blue as well as a deep red with metallic pigment. The last four of the series step outside it: wood, a second rust without gloss, a vivid red and the medium gray used on the fuselages of combat aircraft.

Where the choice comes into play

It does the most work on exposed panels, engines, exhaust stacks, gun barrels and on edges that service has worn down to bare material. Brass and copper suit cartridge cases, piping and the fittings of historical vehicles, gunmetal the armored parts and tracks.

How to handle the pigment

The metal particles are heavier than the binder and settle at the bottom, so stir the contents thoroughly before every application and repeat the stirring between layers. A glossy dark base under chrome and steel substantially increases the depth of the sheen. A finished surface is sensitive to abrasion, so it is sensible to cover it with clear varnish.

What you will not find in the box

The choice is aimed at finished surfaces, so it holds neither a primer nor a thinner. For a proper transition between bare material and a color coat it helps to have masking tape and fine sandpaper to hand as well, to soften the edges before spraying.
