Sixteen earth tones for terrain and dioramas: sands, ochres, stone and greenish grays, browns from beige to umber, ivory and white.

Terrain is treacherous in that almost nothing in it is a pure color. Soil is not brown, stone is not gray and sand is certainly not yellow – everything lies somewhere in between. This set therefore contains not a single saturated shade, and that is its main strength.
The sand group is made up of Iraqui Sand, Sand Yellow and Deck Tan, each a little differently warm. Stone surfaces are covered by Stone Grey, Green Grey and Medium Grey, with the greenish variant suiting surfaces covered with lichen or moss. The darkest position is held by Dark Grey and Burnt Umber, with which joints, cracks and shadows under edges are done.
The brown line runs from the light Beige Brown through Brown Ochre to Green Brown and Brown Violet. The last two shades are more valuable for terrain than they look: the greenish and violet component is exactly what tells real soil from a modeling brown. Ivory, White and Middlestone will help to brighten the whole, and Light Orange will add a warm accent.
The use is not limited to bases. The same palette will color dusty equipment, the plaster of buildings, field tracks and dried-out vegetation. On plaster and clay it is applied heavily thinned, so that it soaks in and does not cover the texture; on plastic, on the other hand, in thin covering layers.
The shades are water-based acrylics that dry to a deeply flat finish which takes pigments and dry-brushing well.
