A plastic kit of the Japanese rocket-powered special attack aircraft Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka in 1:48 scale from the Japanese maker FineMolds. The small model is completed by a transport trolley and a support cradle. The box contains injection-molded plastic and decals. It is an injection-molded plastic model to be glued and painted.
The Ohka was a small rocket-powered aircraft developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy at the end of the Second World War as a weapon for suicide (kamikaze) attacks. A mother bomber carried it beneath its fuselage and released it over the target; the pilot then aimed at Allied ships. It was an extreme product of a desperate phase of the war. The model serves as a historical document of the technology of its time rather than as a celebration — it is a matter-of-fact reminder of where wartime escalation led. Short straight wings, a simple fuselage with the warhead at the front and three rocket nozzles at the rear capture the purely functional design of the machine.
A small aircraft goes together quickly, which makes clean work all the more visible. Work up the cockpit and mask the glazing before spraying. The transport trolley and cradle make an effective diorama setting for the whole scene. Pick out the panel lines with a fine wash and even the model out at the end with a clear coat of the sheen you want. Differentiate the wooden and metal parts with the shades of the materials. It is best to assemble and paint the trolley and cradle separately from the aircraft and to bring them together only at the end of the scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
