Copper, bronze and brass darken in the air and cover themselves with a layer of oxides. It is exactly this cast that tells a bell, a statue or a copper roof that has stood outdoors for decades from freshly polished metal. The turquoise shade of the patina aims precisely at that change: it settles in the recesses and, once dry, leaves behind a flat, slightly grainy trace that paint from a brush cannot produce on its own.
The product is thinned with water, so you manage without thinners and wash the brushes under running water. Shake the bottle before use, as the pigment settles. It is brushed onto a finished, dry surface and the effect can be built up: the thinner the deposit, the finer the trace, and a further layer is added only once the previous one has dried. As long as the product has not dried, you can take the surplus off with a damp brush or a cloth and so keep the effect under control. Fix the finished area with varnish at the end, or the patina will rub off while the model is handled.
It is not only about separate metal fittings. The turquoise cast suits sheet roofs and domes of buildings in a diorama, decorative elements of monuments, bells, lamps, piping and the fittings of machines, as well as the metal parts of fantasy and science fiction structures. It stands being combined with pigments and a dark wash well, so it can be worked into a longer series of effects.
For modelers and painters of figures who want to age metal surfaces convincingly and do not want to mix the shade themselves. The model, paints, brushes and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
