A plastic kit of the modern Chinese Type 054B frigate in 1:350 scale from the maker Magic Factory. Conceived in a modern way, the kit uses color-separated (pre-colored) parts and is arranged so that it can be assembled without glue as well. That opens it up to less experienced builders while still allowing a good result with painting and weathering.
The Type 054B is the newest frigate of the PLA Navy (People's Liberation Army Navy). It follows on from the proven Type 054A but is roughly half again as large, with a displacement of around six thousand tons and a markedly stealth-shaped hull and superstructure. She was first launched and trialed in 2023.
Although the pre-colored parts let it be assembled without glue, firmer and cleaner joins come from a cement for plastic. The hull can be built as a full hull or as a waterline version. For a convincing look we recommend fine washes into the panel lines and dry-brushing on the edges of the superstructure. Accessory photo-etch (railings) and a stand can be obtained separately if they are not in the package.
The model is supplied unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
