Five spare blades from the Polish brand Mirage Hobby in an extended design. Against an ordinary blade of shape No. 11 the edge is longer, so a single stroke covers more ground and on a long cut you do not have to set the blade down again. A longer blade also reaches deeper into a cut-out and onto a surface that lies below the edge of a part. The version 3 designation sets this variant apart from the brand's other blades of the same shape.

Use

• long straight cuts in plastic sheet, film and card
• paring longer mold seams off fuselages and cowlings
• working in deep cut-outs that a short blade cannot reach
• separating parts along the whole length of a sprue

How to handle the blades

A longer edge offers less resistance to sideways pressure and will bend, so guide the cut along a ruler and press straight down rather than to the side. Seat the blade all the way home in the holder so that it does not work loose under the stroke. Replace a dull blade, since resharpening makes no sense with a thin edge. Store blades you set aside in the packaging.

Who the blades are for

For modelers who cut plastic sheet and make larger changes to fuselages, for diorama builders and for work with paper and film. They also serve well in conversions, where the fuselage is split in two and the cut has to pass through the whole width of the part in one go so that the two halves meet again afterwards. The blades are sharp and a longer edge breaks easily, so store them out of the reach of children.
