This is a set of painting masks in kabuki material in 1:48 scale from New Ware, in the EXPERT line. The set is meant for masking the cockpit glazing and other clear and small parts while a model of the two-seat Saab JAS-39 D Gripen is painted. It is not a kit and not a model – it is an accessory that makes painting easier and more accurate. According to the product name the set is intended for the Italeri 2664 and Mistercraft G200 kits.

The set and the real subject

At New Ware the EXPERT line is the most extensive level of masks: besides the outer masks for the canopy it usually contains masks for the inside of the cockpit and further elements such as the wheels and small clear parts. The Saab JAS-39 Gripen is a Swedish fourth-generation multi-role fighter; the two-seat D version serves above all for training and for tasks calling for a second crew member.

Use

Carefully lift the masks off the sheet, set them exactly onto the cockpit frames and the clear parts and press them down so that they adhere well. Then spray the paint in thin coats. Kabuki paper can be shaped over curves too and once the paint has dried it comes off easily and cleanly, so the transitions stay sharp.
