This item is a detail accessory (an aftermarket set) from Quickboost, the accessory range of the Czech company Aires. It contains the boarding ladder in the extended position for the kit of the F-14D Tomcat fighter in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Tamiya. It is neither an aircraft model nor a kit – the kit has to be bought separately and is not included in the package.
The Tomcat had a telescopic boarding ladder built into the left side of the forward fuselage, which swung out and extended as the crew got in and out. On the ground – while the aircraft is being prepared, the crew is boarding or a post-flight check is under way – it is therefore commonly seen extended in photographs. A model with the ladder retracted looks static, whereas an extended ladder tells a story at once: the aircraft has just landed or is getting ready for take-off. It therefore goes excellently with a machine with an open canopy, complemented by a figure of a pilot or ground crew, or in a small diorama scene on a carrier deck or on the ramp.
