What a filling primer does

Mr.Surfacer is a filling primer, that is a layer that goes onto a model before the paint. It has three tasks at once. It unifies a surface made up of different materials and differently sanded places, so that the opaque paint sits down the same everywhere and holds. It fills hairline grooves, small scratches left by sanding and hairline gaps in the joints. And above all it shows up flaws: on bare plastic a badly sanded joint is almost impossible to see, while under a uniform layer of primer it jumps out at once, while something can still be done about it.

The number 1000 and the dark gray shade

The number in the designation gives the fineness. The higher it is, the finer the grit and the thinner the layer; the value 1000 is the common universal choice that still fills while not flooding the fine engraving. The dark gray shade suits as a base under dark opaque colors and as a check layer on which glossy sanding marks are clearly visible. At the same time it gives the model a dark base from which the gradual lightening of the surfaces is built up well.

How to work with it

Shake the contents thoroughly before use. Apply in thin layers, not in one generous one, and let the surface dry between layers. Sand the dried primer with fine abrasive paper or a sponge until the area goes evenly matte and smooth; on a deeper groove repeat the procedure. The recommended thinner, the thinning ratio and the way of applying it are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging, so follow that.
