About product

Italian heavy cruiser Pola, 1:350, Trumpeter

Plastic kit of the Italian heavy cruiser RN Pola of the Zara class in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The model has to be assembled and painted.

The real subject

Pola was one of the ships of the Zara class, heavily armored Italian heavy cruisers with an armament of eight 203 mm guns. She served as a flagship and took part in the fighting in the Mediterranean. The Zara class comprised four heavy cruisers in all. It was among the best armored heavy cruiser classes of its day and the ships were considered some of the handsomest Italian warships. In March 1941, after a machinery breakdown, Pola was sunk in the night Battle of Cape Matapan together with her sister ships; the Regia Marina lost three heavy cruisers there in a single night, one of its heaviest defeats.

Building and painting tips

An airbrush is recommended for the light gray Italian finish and a wash for bringing out the deck and the superstructures. Start the build with the hull and the main deck, then fit the main battery turrets, the funnels and the complex superstructures. Glue the small parts and any photo-etch with cyanoacrylate glue at the very end. The hull can be built complete and set on a stand.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in the Regia Marina of the Second World War
  • Intermediate modelers

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
