Gunze UG27 Gundam Color, Hi-Nu blue, gloss

A modeling paint from the Japanese maker Gunze, from the Gundam Color range. The shade is mixed for the blue surface of the Hi-Nu Gundam robot and saves the builder from working out a mixing ratio by hand. It dries to a gloss, which is intentional in this range: marking stickers hold on a gloss surface and surplus panel line wash wipes off cleanly, without streaks and without running into the texture.

What the paint is thinned with and what it is NOT

This is a solvent-based paint of the lacquer type, not a water-thinned acrylic. It is thinned solely with lacquer thinner from the same maker, the ordinary one or the slow-drying one for the airbrush. Neither water nor acrylic thinner will thin the paint. Lacquer also attacks what is underneath, so it must not be sprayed directly onto enamel or onto uncured acrylic without a barrier coat between them. If you are not sure what is under the paint, test the adhesion on a hidden part of the model.

Use

• Stir the paint thoroughly before taking any out, as the pigment settles to the bottom.
• For the airbrush, thin with lacquer thinner from the same maker.
• Apply thin coats; the lacquer covers well even in a single pair of passes.
• Let the gloss surface cure before applying a wash.

The paint is flammable and contains organic solvents. Work in a well-ventilated area, use a respirator when spraying and keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.
