RX-78-2 Gundam Blue (Semi-Gloss)

RX-78-2 Gundam Blue (Semi-Gloss) - a color from the Gundam series

A modeling paint from the Japanese brand Gunze from the series of colors mixed for kits from the Gundam universe. The blue is one of the four paints that together make up the finish of the title machine of the original series, so comparing color charts falls away. The designation Semi-Gloss in the name gives a semi-gloss surface.

Which machine the color belongs to

The RX-78-2 Gundam wears a white, blue and red finish with yellow details, and the blue in it takes up bold areas of the torso and the limbs. On its own it will not make the whole scheme - it is one piece of the puzzle, which has to fit the other three. That is precisely why it makes sense to take the colors from one series: they are mixed to go together and they save you tuning the tone on test samples. The quality of the surface also shows the most on blue areas, so take care over cleaning up the sprue gates.

Use and tips

• Richer tones stand out on a smooth surface, so sand the sprue gates carefully
• Shake the bottle thoroughly before applying; the pigment settles at the bottom
• Apply in several thin layers; one thick one will flood the engraved lines
• Test the compatibility with a varnish or patina on an offcut of the sprue
• Settle the thinner and the cleaning of the tools according to the manufacturer's instructions for this range

Who the color is for

The paint is meant for builders of kits from the Gundam universe who want to finish a model in the finish of the real subject. It comes into its own elsewhere too - as a rich blue for science fiction equipment or the details of figures.

Store the paint out of the reach of children, work in a ventilated space and use a respirator and eye protection when spraying. Check the suitable thinner and the cleaning of the tools against the manufacturer's data for this range - Gunze carries several systems side by side that do not mix with one another.
