Eight shades for the heavy twin-engine fighter designated Flanker: three blue-keyed tones for the upper surfaces, three grays and a light blue for the underside.
Responsibility details are not available.
The prototype designated T-10 first flew in 1977 and proved so troublesome that the design team reworked the whole airframe. The rebuilt form reached the units in the middle of the 1980s and brought a combination that had not been usual until then: an enormous range, a great load capacity and an agility it became famous for with the maneuver of a sharp pitch-up of the nose. It serves in the armament of a number of states to this day and its later variants have grown into a whole family.
The selection covers the finishes from the introduction of the machine to the present. The basis is made by three blue-keyed shades for the upper surfaces, which alternate on the airframes in soft fields; to them belong three grays including the protective finish and a light blue meant for the underside. It is exactly this combination that gives the type its characteristic cool look, which cannot be mixed from standard military palettes.
The fields on the upper surfaces have no sharp edge; the transition is done free-hand at low pressure and with the airbrush close to the surface. The order from the lightest tone to the darkest saves work, because a darker shade covers a lighter one easily. The blue of the underside is laid on first of all, before the model is turned over, and the boundary between the underside and the side is left blurred on this machine.
The palette will serve all the usual sizes of plastic kits of this type as well as its derived two-seat versions.
